RICKEY “RICK” LEE FISHER

Rickey “Rick” Lee Fisher, age 54, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed from this life June 26, 2021, after a subsequent illness following a brave battle with cancer, with his beloved wife beside him every step of the way.
He was born on July 23, 1966, in West Plains, Missouri, to Bill Dean and Mary Ellen (Driscoll) Fisher. He graduated from Liberty High School. Rick was united in marriage to Susan Marie Weaver on May 5, 2007; they exchanged vows on her brothers’ property near Pawnee, Oklahoma.
Rick is survived by his wife, Susan Marie Fisher of the home in Punta Gorda, FL; two sons, Sidney “Sid” Allen Fisher and wife, Breila, and Joshua “Josh” Paul Weaver; his parents, Bill and Mary Fisher; and by many family members and friends, as well as his fellow Marine family.
He was a proud veteran and served his country in the Gulf War. He served honorably in the Marines, achieving the rank of E-4. Rick entered the Marines on January 28, 1985, and completed Marine Corps Boot Camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, later being stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He returned to Camp Lejeune and was then deployed to the Gulf War for 87 days.
Aside from his family, Rick’s greatest devotion was to the military. His experience in the Marines played a very important role in his life. He frequently pointed out that the Marines taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in a cause larger than himself. He would often explain to loved ones how these values contributed to his success in every aspect of his work life.
After Rick’s son, Sid, was born in Jacksonville, NC, Rick took his son, who was just three days old to the beach. Rick was running very fast up and down the beach, as they did in the Marines, with Sid in an umbrella stroller. Rick’s dad, Bill, yelled at Rick to stop running, that he was “hoppin’ the curb” and going to hurt the baby’s brain! Rick emphatically yelled back that he wasn’t hurting him, instead, he was going to teach his son to love the beach, to love to travel, and how to travel the world just as Rick did and learn to love it. He did just that, with Sid crediting his father for his love of travel.
Rick worked for the State of Missouri until his deteriorating health caused him to retire. He loved to travel and was fortunate enough to be able to do this often. In particular, Rick loved the beach and dreamt of retiring and moving there. He was able to do just that, although not for as long as he would have liked. He loved fishing, taking photos, and spending time with his family, especially his wife, Susan. They were incredibly happy together and enjoyed living their lives to the fullest. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and loved watching them play.
He was an encourager and frequently would give moral support to others and was always ready to lend a hand. If he made a promise, he certainly delivered it. He was a man of his word and if he said he was going to be there, you knew he would no matter the circumstances involved or obstacle he might face.
Funeral services were held at Yarber Mortuary in Rick’s hometown of Mountain View, Missouri, on Friday, July 2 with Pastor Nolan Wilkins officiating. Interment in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mountain View, Missouri with military honors provided by Missouri Military Funeral Honors Program. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
