Violett Lucille (Ledbetter) Colter

Violett Lucille (Ledbetter) Colter was born on April 30, 1927, in Birch Tree, Missouri, to Julius and Ruth (Mitchell) Ledbetter. Lucille went home to the Lord on August 29, 2022, at the age of 95 years and 4 months.
She was united in marriage to Sammie Colter on February 2, 1946. To this union one son, Sammie Larry, and one daughter, Judi Lea, were born.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Sammie; her son, Sammie Larry Colter; her grandmother, Maggie Ledbetter; her parents, Julius and Ruth Ledbetter; two brothers, Ralph and Carl Ledbetter; three sisters, Evelyn Celevinger, Thelma Rakes, Nancy "Cricket" Selbee; six brothers-in-law, Virgil Colter, Seborn Colter, Everett Colter, Dutch Celevinger, Roy Rakes, and Bud Selbee; and four sisters-in-law, Stella Tapley, Mary Gau, Leigh Soloman, and Beulah Ledbetter.
She is survived by her daughter, Judi Colter of Mountain View, MO; three grandchildren, Amy Shockley and husband, Roger of Antonia, MO, Rebecca Kleba and husband, Joe of St. Louis, MO, and Amanda Nikolaisen and husband, Landon of Oakville, MO; six great-grandchildren, Christopher Degenhardt of Korea, Samantha Degenhardt of St. Louis, Joey Kleba of St. Louis, Ethan Kleba of St. Louis, Addison Maguire of Oakville, and Briyer Nikolaisen of Oakville.
Lucille's mother, father, and siblings moved to the state of Washington when she was nine years old. She stayed with her grandmother, Maggie Ledbetter, to help her on the farm. Lucille attended Thomasville school, and she was the Valedictorian of her graduating class. She moved to St. Louis for a short time to work during the war. She moved back and met Sammie, and they lived on their farm for most of their lives. Lucille worked for the Mountain View school district for 37 years. She could still tell stories of all the children that would come through the lunch line. Her memory was amazing to her family and friends. Lucille was loved and will be missed by family and friends.
Funeral services were held September 1 at Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri, with Pastor Brad Strosnider officiating. Interment was in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Mountain View.
