Life is short; live it beautifully
By:
Sabrina Cornman, Mtn. View Public Library Director
I used to be careful about the things I use everyday; dishes that were too pretty, tablecloths that were too fancy, and everything had too much sentimental value. I am an only child with a large extended family and generations of their stuff. I’m a minimalist at heart but I’m a sucker for Aunt Alvie’s quilts, Granny’s dishes and everybody’s antiques. However, two decades ago I realized that we were eating daily meals off of chipped, mismatched, ugly dishes while a beautiful set of China that I loved sat in a dusty box under the bed. I realized what a shame that was. Let’s not waste one more day with such a dismal attitude. Life is short, live it beautifully.
We’ve been very busy at the library lately. We’ve put in new security cameras and will be installing handrails on the porch thanks to the Friends of the Mountain View Public Library. Thanks to the city for our new outdoor lighting and beautiful new porch lights. I would also like to thank our patrons for your support. When you purchase used books from our sale room or bid on silent auction items, you are helping our Friends group carry out projects like these and many more.
Do you like jigsaw puzzles and winning prizes? Mark your calendar for our Jigsaw Puzzle Race happening Saturday, March 7! Teams of three, ages 14 plus will have 2 1/2 hours to assemble a 300 piece puzzle. The winning team takes home a fun prize package and all teams get to keep the puzzle. We are limited to five, so get your team registered quickly!
If you haven’t picked up your calendar for the 2026 Reading Challenge or your card for our Winter Bingo, it’s not too late to get in on the games!
We are planning several activities for all ages during our upcoming summer reading program, including gardening, cooking and canning classes. If you are interested in these activities, please call and let us know if you would prefer to meet during the day or evening.
C.S Lewis said “You can’t go back and change the beginning. But you can start where you are and change the ending.” Wishing you a day filled with beauty and a new start.
