Letter to the Editor

This letter is in regards to the nationwide rioting going on.
One of their supporters has claimed that this is what the founding fathers did in their day. That is not correct! The founding fathers petitioned their government- King George III and the English Parliament- for years before citizens committed acts of civil disobedience. Rioting in the streets and destroying property is not the same thing as petitioning your government.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would be very disappointed if he were alive today. He preached against violent confrontations. He also taught that if acts of civil disobedience must be done, then they must be done peacefully. He did not support destroying other citizens’ businesses or attacking the police.
What is being done today nationwide is criminal and should be treated as such.
Sincerely,
Tim Young, West Plains
