Incidents 
December 20
A woman who was possibly under the influence of a controlled substance was reported at Ozarks Healthcare. The woman was placed on a hold at the city jail. 
Contact was made with a male subject near the intersection of Broadway and Porter Wagoner. The male was arrested on active warrants. 
A burglary was reported at Grump’s Grub. An investigation was conducted. 
A burglary was reported at Gro-Mor Fertilizer on Bratton Avenue. Glass was broken to gain entry, but nothing was reported stolen. 
A male subject used a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for items at a business on U.S. Highway 63. The male was identified before he left the scene. 
A protection order violation was reported on Washington Avenue. As a result, a male subject was taken into custody. 
A stealing incident was reported at a business on the court square. The incident is under investigation. 
A female was taken into custody at the Probation and Parole office. 
Possible gunfire was reported near Grace Avenue. An investigation was conducted. 
A domestic assault was reported on the 600 block of Joe Jones Boulevard. The suspect fled the scene prior to law enforcement arriving. 
December 21
Theft was reported at the Casey’s on Saint Louis Street. The investigation is ongoing. 
A male subject was arrested after stealing items from the porch of his former significant other on the 2100 block of Joann. The suspect had violated a protection order. 
A female subject was arrested on active warrants at the West Plains Police Department. 
Contact was made with a male subject with active warrants on Girdley. The male was taken into custody. 
December 22
The Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force got a tip that child pornography may have been stored by a person in Howell County. The investigation is ongoing. 
Though no victims were located after gunshots were heard near Grace Avenue on December 20, a gunshot victim was reported two days later in connection its the incident. The victim did not contact police or seek medical treatment. The crime scene was discovered on the 400 block of Maple Street. A masked male had tried to get the victim to get into a vehicle. When he refused, the masked male fired five rounds at the victim, striking him in the leg. The investigation is ongoing. 
A juvenile was reported trying to harm himself on Rhonda Street. The juvenile was transported to Ozarks Healthcare. 
A possible burglary in progress was reported on Jefferson Avenue. Entry had not been gained, but a male subject was trespassed from the property. No criminal charges were sought. 
A report of detained library materials was received from the West Plains Public Library. The information was forwarded to the municipal court for formal charges. 
A woman reported an incident that had occurred at Walmart. A report was taken, and the investigation continues. 
A female subject was arrested on an outstanding warrant. 
December 23
A woman reported that someone used her debit card and two credit cards that she had accidentally left at a self-checkout register at Walmart. The investigation continues. 
A domestic disturbance was reported at a home on Johnson Street. A female subject was reportedly upset with her boyfriend for not going to court with her. The male had been assaulted but showed no visible injuries. The woman had also caused property damage at the scene. 
A woman was reported as possibly being under the influence of a controlled substance. The woman stated that she was extremely tired and had someone take her home. 
December 24
A report was received of a juvenile female that had cut herself. The girl was taken to Ozarks Healthcare where the injury was determined to not be life threatening. 
December 25
Two suspicious juveniles were reported on the 1000 block of 5th Street. The juveniles were transported to their residence, and a referral was sent to the juvenile office. 
A suspicious male was reported in the area of Webster and Porter Wagoner Boulevard. The male was taken into custody on active warrants. 
Property damage was reported on Pamela Drive. A vehicle windshield had been damaged. he investigation continues. 
Smoke was seen coming from the roof of Walmart. It was determined that the smoke was coming from inside the building. Upon entry, it was discovered that part of a display in the jewelry area of the store was engulfed in flames. West Plains Fire Department extinguished the flames. The store was closed while repairs were made to the store. 
An assault was reported on the 2300 block of Howard. A probable cause statement was forwarded to the Howell County Prosecutor. 
Two intoxicated people were located at a residence on Thayer Avenue, following a 911 hang up call from the residence. A male was taken from the scene with chest pains. A female at the residence claimed that the man had shot, stabbed and beaten a male in Birch Tree. An investigation found no evidence to support the claim.
