Bears Beat Bulldogs 56 to 36

The Willow Springs Bears faced off against the Gainesville Bulldogs, another state-ranked team, Tuesday night. Though their defense was strong, the Bears struggled to put up points in the first quarter until Owen Duddridge sank a three with 5 minutes left on the board. Now up by ten, they decided to lob two good plays amongst three Bears each, to make four points quickly. When the dust settled, the Bears are ahead by 11, 17-6.
During the second quarter, Willow put up 4 points in no time, and continued their strong defensive game. It became a back-and-forth battle with both teams of turnovers and steals.
The rest of the quarter was characterized by low scoring from the Bears and Bulldogs even with good ball handling. Regardless, Willow was up at the half with a score of 27-13.
In the third, the Bears come out slow and had trouble scoring. But with 5 minutes left, the Bears found their mojo and started to get plays lined out. Only 3 Bears scored for the quarter, but they held on to the lead of 37-23 Bears.
The fourth quarter started with a turnover, but the Bears made it up with a good pass to Scooter Osborn underneath for the basket. The fourth proved to be a very aggressive quarter for both teams. With 3 minutes left in the game, and the Bears led by 17.
Head Coach Mike Wilson took the opportunity to put fresh players in for some good ball handling and scoring. Ultimately, the Bears ended the game with a 56-39 win over the Bulldogs.
This is the fourth state-ranked team the Bears have defeated. Scoring for the Bears this game were Scottie Osborn with 27, Owen Duddridge with 10, Gannon McGinnis with 9, Gabe Colvin and Scooter Osborn both with 4, and Taftin Thompson with 2.
