Eagles win over Wildcats

In a small town, the joys of a successful high school football season come with some downfalls, one of which is a significant loss of practice time to prepare for upcoming winter sports. Liberty High School faced this challenge head on. Liberty football players ended their season in the Missouri State Quarterfinals just twelve days before their first high school basketball game. For Liberty, multi-sport players keep both teams afloat. Head Coach James Lee made the most of their Thanksgiving break trying to prepare his team to face the Summersville Wildcats on Dec. 1.
The Eagles came out and played with aggression and intensity. Unsurprisingly, they also ran into foul trouble. The Eagles stayed on the heels of the Wildcats throughout the entire contest, trailing by three points at half-time. Terrell Gaines was Liberty's lead shooter, scoring 23 points, while Brody Rutledge led in rebounds. Drew Ripko scored 10 points and also trailed the lead in rebounds along with Gavin Reese. The Wildcats took the victory with a final score of 46-55.
The Eagles will take part in the Mansfield Tournament next week followed by their next regular season game in Winona on December 16.
