Lady Bears Stay Alive in District Play

On Monday, Feb. 21, the Lady Bears played their last home game against the Hollister Lady Tigers. The Lady Bears would pick up the win against their district foe by a score of 49-37.
The night was full of emotions as it was also senior night for the Lady Bears. The crowd honored four seniors. Ashlyn Jones was a four-year varsity starter. Chloe Chafin was a four-year letterman as well. Liz Sheehan was a three-year letterman. Keena Lowe was a four year letterman.
Saturday it was time: the win-or-go-home, survive-and-advance portion of the season. The Lady Bears were primed and ready to make their run. They played the Reed Springs Lady Wolves.
The Lady Bears jumped out to an early lead created by some hot shooting and pressure defense. The Lady Bears led after one quarter 22-5.
The second quarter was more of the same, and the Lady Bears would only allow Reed Springs two points the entire quarter. Coupling stifling shooting with another 22-point quarter, the girls from Willow would lead at the half 44-7.
The big lead enabled Coach Shannon Crain to rest the starters for the second half and get some of the younger girls some varsity experience. The Lady Bears finished the game with the win by a score of 61-23.
Ashlyn Jones led the Lady Bears with 23 points, Liz Sheehan would finish with 15, Keena Lowe would have 13, Reece Jones contributed 5, while Chloe Chafin with 3, and Anna Mingee and Dana Canado would round it out with 2 each. Next up for the Lady Bears will be the semifinals of district play where they face the Lady Wildcats of Logan-Rogersville.
