Lady Eagles dominate Thayer Winter Classic

The Liberty Lady Eagles have improved to 10-5 on their season and claimed the championship of the Thayer Winter Classic.
On January 10 the Lady Eagles defeated the Cabool Lady Bulldogs 67-62. The game was a close battle as Liberty scored 20 to Cabool's 10 points in the first quarter. Cabool then made a small jump in the second scoring 16 to Liberty's 14 points. Liberty answered back in the third quarter scoring 16 to Cabool's 13 points. In the end, Cabool had a small comeback scoring 23 to Liberty's 17 in the fourth, but it wasn't enough for the win. For the game Abby Woolsey (Sr) led with 17 points followed by Lexi Shumpert (Sr) and Reagan Wells (So) with 14 each, Hadley Chowning (Fr) had 12 points, Lyla Cornman (Jr) and Chloe Kelts (Jr) had 4 each and Sydnee Lafevers (Jr) had 2 points.
On January 18, the Lady Eagles defeated the Van Buren Lady Bulldogs 74-62 in the first round of the Thayer Tournament. It was a close game for the first two quarters as Liberty scored 15 to Van Buren's 15 and then 18 to Van Buren's 15. In the third quarter the Lady Eagles had a tremendous leap in points as they scored 26 to Van Buren's 8. The fourth quarter wrapped up with Van Buren trying to get ahead scoring 24 to Liberty's 15. For the game, Chowning (Fr) led with 20 points, A. Woolsey (Sr) with 19, Shumpert (Sr) with 15, Wells (So) with 13, Lafevers (Jr) with 3, Cornman (Jr) and K. Woolsey (Sr) with 2 points each.
The Lady Eagles advanced to the championship game after defeating host Thayer 64-44. Shumpert (Sr) led with 17 points followed by Wells (So) with 17 and Chowning (Fr) with 12.
Playing for the championship on Friday night, the Lady Eagles defeated the Willow Springs Lady Bears 69-39. The Lady Eagles dominated the first three quarters of the game scoring 24-8, 20-10 and 20-12. The final quarter of the game had Liberty putting up 5 points to Willow's 9. For the game, Wells (So) led with 17 points followed by A. Woolsey (Sr) with 13, Shumpert (Sr) with 12, K. Woolsey (Sr) and Chowning (Fr) with 7 each, Lafevers (Jr) with 6, Kelts (Jr) with 5 and Cornman (Jr) with 2 points.
The Lady Eagles will travel to Gainesville on January 24 and to Poplar Bluff on January 27. The next home game for the Lady Eagles will be Monday, January 31 at 6pm against Salem.
