Lady Eagles fall to 6-5 on season

The Liberty Lady Eagles are currently looking at a 6-5 season record and are 0-1 in the SCA.
Head Coach Eli Ernst had this to say about the season so far, “We were off to a great start early and have struggled to play with the same energy we were earlier in the year. We have identified our struggles and are working on them daily. We aren’t proud of our current position. However, we recognize that we control what is in front of us and I like our response over the past week to these opportunities.”
During Christmas break, the Lady Eagles participated in the annual Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament. On Monday, December 27 the Lady Eagles defeated the Summersville Lady Wildcats 65-27. The Eagles stayed on top of the Wildcats scoring 20-5 in the first quarter, 21-9, 8-8 and then 16-5 in the fourth. For the game, Reagan Wells (So) led with 18 points followed by Abby Woolsey (Sr) with 14, Hadley Chowning (Fr) with 8, Lexi Shumpert (Sr), Kenna Woolsey (Sr) and Sydnee Lafevers (Jr) with 6 points each, Chloe Kelts (Jr) with 3, Macey Bolander (So) and Ella Phipps (Fr) with 2 points each.
Returning the following night, the Lady Eagles lost to the Willow Springs Lady Bears 59-66 on Tuesday, December 28. The Eagles took the lead in the first quarter scoring 16-12 but trailed in the remaining three quarters 13-17, 10-16 and 20-21. For the game, Chowning (Fr) had 19 points followed by Shumper (Sr) with 13, A. Woolsey (Sr) with 10, Wells (So) with 8, K. Woolsey (Sr) and Lafevers (Jr) with 4 each and Kelts (Jr) with 1 point.
Wrapping up the tournament, the Lady Eagles played the Hartville Lady Eagles on Wednesday, December 19. The game was a nail biter as the Eagles battled it out over four quarters and then went into overtime. During the first quarter the Eagles were tied 16-16, the second quarter had the Liberty Eagles trailing 10-15, the Eagles came back scoring 15-10 against Hartville in the third and the fourth ended 12-12. During overtime Liberty scored 6 to Hartville’s 9 points. For the game, Shumpert (Sr) led with 22 points followed by Chowning (Fr) with 15, A. Woolsey (Sr) with 12, Wells (So) with 8 and Lafevers (Jr) with 2 points.
On Monday, January 3 the Lady Eagles traveled to Ava where they fell to the Lady Bears 44-66. The Lady Eagles tied up the first quarter 13-13 but then fell behind in the second quarter 9-18 and again in the third and fourth quarters 8-16, 14-19. For the game, Chowning (Fr) led with 20 points followed by Wells (So) with 12 points, Shumpert (Sr) with 4, Lafevers (Jr) with 3, K. Woolsey (Sr) and Kelts (Jr) with 2 points each.
The last game of the week had the Lady Eagles hosting the Doniphan Lady Dons where the Eagles fell 59-70. Scores by quarters were 15-24, 14-17, 19-17 and 11-12. Scoring for the game was Shumpert (Sr) leading with 17 points followed by Wells (So) with 11, K. Woolsey (Sr) and Chowning (Fr) with 8 points each, A. Woolsey (Sr) with 7 points, Lafevers (Jr) with 6 and Kelts (Jr) with 2 points.
The Lady Eagles will host the Cabool Lady Bulldogs on Monday, January 10. This game will be Varsity only and will begin at 6:00pm. The week filled round out with another home game against the Houston Lady Tigers on Thursday, January 13. The Junior Varsity will play at 6:00pm followed by Varsity.
