Lady Eagles gaining momentum on season

The Liberty Lady Eagles have won their first two games of the season and it's a massive boost for the young team.
The girls played in the Greenwood Classic held Saturday, March 26 at the Cooper Sports Complex in Springfield. The Lady Eagles faced off against the Aurora Lady Houn Dawgs. The game was a victory with a score of 7-2 and it was a big first win for the Lady Eagles. Scoring for the Lady Eagles was (Fr) Kaylie Wagner with 4, (Sr) Abby Woolsey with 1, (So) Tati Chavez with 1 and (Fr) Kaydence Farris with 1 goal. The Lady Eagles will see the Lady Houn Dawgs again at the Eagle's Nest on Thursday, April 21 at 5:00 p.m.
The Lady Eagles were set to play the host team the Greenwood Lady Jays for the championship game. The Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Jays 0-7, but came away with second place in the Greenwood Classic. The Lady Eagles will play Greenwood again at home on Monday, May 2 at 5:00 p.m.
"The girls really stepped it up in their first game at this tournament," began Head Coach Ashley Roegge on the tournament. "I could see they were putting things together that we worked on in practice and applying it in the game. The girls came away with a 7-2 win against Aurora. With the second game of the day the girls were playing the hosting team Greenwood. This team obviously had many club/experienced players that quickly took advantage of our weaknesses. The girls fought hard and were able to hold the Greenwood girls off with only a 7-0 loss after more than 30 shots on our goal."
Earning their first home victory, the Lady Eagles defeated the McAuley Catholic Lady Warriors 2-0 on Tuesday, March 29. As this was a district opponent it was a much needed win for the Lady Eagles. The game was a great team effort as the team's four seniors Litzy Lopez, Kiley Taber, Ana Rodriguez in defense and Abby Woolsey in goal shut down the Lady Warriors offensive attacks. Making bigs plays were Liberty's youngest players (Fr) Kaydence Farris and (Fr) Kaylie Wagner. As an attacking midfielder, Farris kept the ball in check and fed numerous goal scoring opportunities to Liberty's strikers. Wagner scored one goal in the first half and one goal in the second half.
"It appears this is a rebuilding year for McAuley as well. This is one of the first teams we have faced that did not have a full bench of girls to sub into the game," stated Head Coach Roegge. "Our girls came away with a 2-0 victory, but should have scored more goals than they did. This game was very physical due to the lack of soccer experience on both sides and the girls stooped to the other teams level of pushing and fouling. The girls play West Plains next and will hopefully perform the way they are capable of playing as seen in practice and against the Aurora game."
