On a cool and windy Homecoming Saturday afternoon, the Liberty Eagles dominated the Salem Tigers 53-0.
After one first down to start the game, Salem was forced to punt from their own 48.
Liberty used a mix of passes and short yardage runs to march down the field. With fourth-and-one from the Salem six yard-line, QB Carter Pruett bounced a run outside and found the endzone. He also ran in the two-point conversion for the 8-0 Eagle lead.
Pruett scored again just a minute later on a one-yard plunge. The touchdown was set up after a Salem fumble, and Jaren Rutledge recovery, at the one yard line.
The Tigers were forced to punt again on their next possession, but the Eagles bobbled the kick and Salem recovered it at the Eagle 22. Liberty's defense responded in a big way, stopping Salem with sacks on three straight plays, two by Kenyon Walls and one by Wyatt Honeycutt.
The Eagles finished the first half scoring with a Pruett to Adrien Pendegraft 19-yard pass, and then Pruett added a two-yard run with just 13 seconds left. Eagles 32, Tigers 0.
In the second half, Liberty's defense corralled Salem once again, and the offense was able to tack on three more touchdowns.
Pruett ran in his fourth rushing score of the game with a one-yard plunge.
Pendegraft caught his second touchdown of the game, this one from 23 yards away.
To finish the scoring, Brody Rutledge plowed his way in from 25 yards out.
After a 1-3 start, Liberty has reeled off four wins in a row. They will look to make it five Friday, when they host the Houston Tigers, for their last regular season game of the year.
