Cookfire Spreads to Brush Fire in Birch Tree

On April 7, fire departments from Birch Tree, Mountain View, and Winona responded to a brush fire burning out of control on Highway FF. The landowners identified themselves as off-grid homesteaders. According to one resident on the scene, the fire started as a cookfire that rapidly spread in high winds and caught fire to the surrounding area. Birch Tree Fire Chief Sam Murphy said about an acre burned before the fire was under control.

No one was injured in the blaze, and no structures were lost, but there was minor damage to a bumper-pull camper on the scene.
