BEARS AT WORK

Juniors and seniors in the Carpentry 1 & 2 class at Willow Springs High School built shelves for a storage room at G&W Foods’ corporate headquarters – they even cleaned out the room first.  It was much-needed organization at the corporate office.

“Community partnership is such a vital part of business, so we wanted to make sure they got the recognition they deserved,” said a release from the grocery chain, who boasts 27 stores across the region.

Carpentry 1 & 2 is a hands-on, career focused program. It is a combination of classroom instruction and job site experience, with the objective being to train students in all aspects of construction. This is accomplished by projects on school campus, projects out in the community, and/or projects built on campus for the community.

Students can earn multiple industry recognized credentials, including an OSHA 10 Construction certification, and after a series of competency testing, students can also qualify for credit hours of apprenticeship and advanced placement through Carpenters Union of Springfield.
