Aliens from Outer Space: Meteors

“Aliens from Outer Space:  Rocks, Large and Small, Falling from the Sky” will be presented by John Riggs at the Spring River Gem & Mineral Club meeting November 4, 10AM, Omaha Center in Cherokee Village. In the past few years, there has been a substantial amount of research and discussion concerning Near Earth Objects which could pose a threat to people on planet Earth.  We can look at the moon and Mars and see the thousands of craters (large and small) that dot their surfaces. Our atmosphere helps protect us from the small ones but not the large ones.  Why don’t we see craters on Earth?  Is it primarily because we aren’t looking or more accurately, haven’t looked in th e right way?

John Riggs, Archeologist, has 47 years experience in Arkansas.  He investigated and mapped numerous Indian sites and sites from all years.  At the age of 12 he developed an interest in Archeology and never looked back. He retired as Senior Cultural Specialist from the USDA-NRCS (National Resource Conservation Survey) in 2018. Since his retirement he is currently working for the Arkansas Army National Guard as well as pursuing a variety of personal projects including cemetery relocations and ground penetrating radar.
