Family Dollar to Open Soon

The sign went up this week, and the opening date is not far away. The newly constructed Family Dollar/Dollar Tree in Willow Springs has been anticipated by the community since last August, when developer McGuffey Properties first approached the City about demolishing the derelict Willow Springs Motel to implement a TIF and CID for a new retail store.
Kevin Guffey, president of Guffey Development, described the new prototype of Family Dollar/Dollar Tree during the TIF hearing that took place on October 15, 2020. It will not be a store in direct competition with Dollar General, he said at that time. The inventory will be heavier on food items than retail offerings. The store will feature 100 feet of coolers and freezers as well as a “snack zone,” said Guffey.
“It’s going to be something that should pull people from outside the city. It’s a new prototype,” he explained.
The store is scheduled to open on September 9, according to a representative for the developer.
