Ozark Spring, NSDAR honors Michael Bond with Quilt of Valor

The Ozark Spring Chapter National Society Daughters of American Revolution (Ozark Spring, NSDAR) was honored to present a Quilt of Valor (QOV) and certificate in an award ceremony to local veteran, Michael S. Bond at the West Plains Public Library on Saturday, April 2.

Michael Scott Bond joined the U. S. Army in 1989 and was honorably discharged in 1995 as an E-4 rank. His duty stations included Fort Hood, Somalia, and Panama. While in Somalia Bond participated in Operation Restore Hope, and during his tour in Panama he participated in Operation Just Cause. Bond’s military education included the Petroleum Supply Specialist Course, the Petroleum Vehicle Operations Course, and the Fuel Handler Course. He served in the Petroleum Supply for four years and ten months.

During his service, Bond earned: The Army lapel button: Army Achievement Medal (with a 2 nd time award); Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar; and the Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Grenade Bar. 

Bond’s name was submitted to the Quilts of Valor Foundation by a fellow soldier, Maria McGruder who stated, “He was courageous, brave, motivated, and eager to protect his fellow soldiers. I trusted Michael with my life then and now. He is a true leader, survivor, and comrade. I am proud to have served with him.”

Since there are no Quilts of Valor chapters in the West Plains area, or surrounding communities, or in this part of Missouri, the Ozark Spring Chapter NSDAR has partnered with the organization to present the quilts to local veterans in recognition of their service, patriotism, and valor in serving our nation.

Quilts of Valor (QOV) are awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war. The Quilts say unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.” To use the term Quilts of Valor or QOV, the quilt must be a specific size, must have a label with required information, it must be awarded (it is not a gift), and it must be recorded.
