Steve Waggoner Invitational Cross Country Meet

The Willow Springs Bears hosted the annual Steve Waggoner Invitational Cross Country Meet at the Thomas F. Benyo Golf Course on September 8. All told, 497 runners competed on the grassy hills of the course. 
In the middle school girls' race, Willow Springs had only one runner, but Sydney Lumby medaled after coming in fifth place with a time of 11:18.31. 
The middle school boys' race was the big win for the Bears. Eighth grader Joel Smith finished first without a competitor in sight. His time was 9:10.52.
Jaron Poyner and Bo Wilson also competed. They came in 49th and 104th, respectively, with times of 11:29.26 and 17:43.40.
Hailey Jade Unruh was Willow's only runner in the varsity girl's race. She medaled when she finished the race in seventh place with a time of 22:08.34.
In the boy's varsity race, Sophomore Carson Smith came in third place with a time of 17:04.45. Matthew Miller and Nolan Perkins both finished in the top 20. Miller finished 10th with a time of 18:25.62. Perkins finished 18th with a time of 19:42.55. Freshman Aaron Gray finished 35th with a time of 23:25.85.
