WS City Council Votes to Lift Limit on Liquor Licenses

At the regular City Council meeting in Willow Springs on June 17, the Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to alter the municipal ordinance governing liquor licenses. 

City Administrator Beverly Hicks presented an amended Alcoholic Beverages Ordinance. The revised version now requires an applicant for a liquor license to provide a copy of their Missouri State liquor license prior to application approval. More notably, the new ordinance removes the limitation on the number of licenses which can be issued by the City. 

Previously, the ordinance limited the number of available licenses to 1 per 500 residents and capped the total number of licenses which could be issued at seven regardless of population. Hicks confirmed there has been a demand among new businesses for liquor licenses which formerly could not be granted because all available licenses had been issued. She indicated that both Dollar General and the soon-to-open Family Dollar will likely apply for licenses. 

At a Motion by Alderman Danny Bradley, a roll call vote unanimously passed Ordinance 1566.
