Smith-Holloway American Legion Post #384 Observes Memorial Day

The Smith-Holloway Post #384 of the American Legion held their annual Memorial Day observance at the Willow Springs Cemetery Monday. Chaplin Kenneth Tooley offered an opening prayer, and a brief message was delivered by Bill George, the post Public Service Officer. It is not a day of celebration. George stressed the real meaning of Memorial Day, previously known as Decoration Day. He stated it was a day to honor the nation's fallen and to remember their sacrifice. He noted the men and women missing in action and held as prisoners of war are also remembered. Tooley offered a closing prayer, and the group and attendees then retired to a meal at the American Legion building.
