Mountain View Fire Chief Stan Murphy was seriously injured in a car crash Sunday afternoon, March 27. The two-car collision occurred at 1:30 p.m. when a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Norman Dolde, 68, of Mountain View, stopped in the northbound lane of Highway OO one mile east of Mountain View to allow deer to cross, reports the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Driving southbound, Murphy, 60, struck two deer before skidding across the roadway, crossing the center line and struck Dolde’s vehicle head-on. Murphy was driving a 2007 Crown Victoria at the time of the crash.
Murphy was not wearing a safety belt at the time and was seriously injured. He was taken from the scene by air ambulance for treatment in a Springfield hospital.
Dolde is reported to have worn a seatbelt and was not injured.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
