The Mtn. View Garden Club Fall Plant and Bake Sale Sept. 12

The Mountain View Garden Club's annual Fall Plant and Bake Sale is Saturday, Sept. 12. The sale is held at "What Park", which is located at the corner of 1st Street and Pine Street in downtown Mtn. View. The sale opens at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 12:00 noon or until the plants are gone. What will you find at the sale? Plants offered at the best prices in town! Other than a few plants that are graciously donated every year, these plants come from the personal gardens of the club members. In addition to house plants, there will be Natives and perennials that pollinators love, annuals, shrubs and trees. This year one of the members had a surplus of rice hulls that will be offered for $3 a bag. If you aren't familiar with the benefits that rice hulls can add to your indoor and outdoor gardens, they loosen heavy, compact, or clay soils, they act as a renewable, dust-free alternative to mined perlite or vermiculite and will slowly break down and supply beneficial silica and trace minerals to the soil. They do not change the overall acidity or alkalinity of your soil. They are biodegradable and eco-friendly agricultural byproduct. 

 

The spring and fall sales are the club's only source of income. The money raised at the sales go to support the club's donations of 100 daffodils to each of the Summersville, Liberty and Willow Springs High Schools to beautify their schools; it supports the Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl Poster Contest for grades 1-5 at both the Mtn. View and Birch Tree Elementary Schools; it enables the club to give $500 Nancy Echols Memorial scholarship to a worthy Liberty senior every year, and so much more.
