Floyd Hiler

Floyd Hiler, a lifelong resident of Willow Springs, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020, while at Willow Care Nursing Home. Floyd was born February 21, 1930 to Charles Theodore and Rose Idella (Wilson) Hiler in Willow Springs and was 90 years old.

Floyd grew up and attended a rural school in Pomona through the eighth grade.  He helped his father on the family farm for several years. He was then employed at Midwest Walnut Company as a band sawyer for 30 years. On January 10, 1981, he married Carol Ann Cauldwell in Willow Springs by Pastor Wayne Tooley. Floyd loved to be outdoors and as long as he was busy, he was happy. He always kept the yard immaculate, whether there was mowing to do or leaves to rake. He and Carol would walk every evening, sometimes 3 or 4 miles until his health started to fail. They also enjoyed going camping, especially to Alley Springs. Floyd played the guitar and his dad, Charlie Hiler, would play the fiddle for the local square dances. Some of his favorite times were spent going deer and turkey hunting with Junior Hanks. He and his brother-in-law, Gary Trogdon, loved to go riding around in Floyd’s truck affectionately known as “Ole Greenie.”  Floyd loved to talk, and it has been said that he never met a stranger.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin; his daughter, Heidi, and his brother, Sherman Hiler.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; stepdaughter, Carma Brown and her husband, Jeff of West Plains; step-son, James May and his wife, Laura of Fair Grove, MO; sister-in-law, Connie Hiler of Willow Springs; brother-in-law, Leon Hiler and his wife, Shirley of Springfield, MO; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lots of friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
