Lady Zizzers finish third at Southwest Missouri Championships

The Lady Zizzers finished third out of 23 teams at the Southwest Missouri Championships. Emily Ritter got the scoring started off on Thursday in 1-meter Diving. She held a strong 5th place through 7 dives, but struggled on the 8th dive and allowed a few competitors to get back to challenge her. She finished strong in the last 3 dives and brought home a medal with a tie for 6th place. According to Head Coach Ryan Smith, no scoring happened on Friday as everyone competed in the preliminary session with the top 18 in each event advancing to finals on Saturday. The Lady Zizzers placed 17 of their 20 swimming events into the finals including all three relays. In the Championship Finals (Earning Medals and Scoring Points) - 200 Freestyle: Roslyn Fiorino-1st Place; Gwen Fiorino-5th Place; 200 Individual Medley: Penelope Autry-5th Place; 100 Freestyle: Roslyn Fiorino-2nd Place; Gwen Fiorino-6th Place; 200 Freestyle Relay: Roslyn Fiorino, Gwen Fiorino, Lea Olswanger, and Penelope Autry-5th Place; 400 Freestyle Relay: Penelope Autry, Gwen Fiorino, Emily Ritter, and Roslyn Fiorino-2nd Place.

 

Consolation Finals (Scoring Points) - 200 Medley Relay: Sally Serrano, Natalie Walker, Emily Ritter, and Brylee Barnes-9th Place; 200 Individual Medley: Brylee Barnes-9th Place; 100 Butterfly: Penelope Autry-8th Place; Emily Ritter-9th Place; 500 Freestyle: Brylee Barnes-8th Place; 100 Backstroke: Sally Serrano-9th Place; Lea Olswanger-10th Place,

 

Bonus Finals (Scoring Points) - 200 Freestyle: Lea Olswanger-14th Place; 100 Freestyle: Sally Serrano-16th Place; 500 Freestyle: Lily York-17th Place.

 

The swimmers will wait to see who officially qualifies on time when the official list comes out. The MSHSAA Class 1 State Swimming and Diving Championships will take place Thursday and Friday, February 19 and 20 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex in St. Louis.
